H Parkinson Haulage get involved in transporting lots of different cargoes, from paper to peat to medical goods, and have been doing so successfully for over 70 years. They also use a variety of equipment, with two types of trailer (Tiger and SDC) and trucks manufactured by Mercedes, Iveco and MAN – which means handling lots of different tyre sizes in a range of locations across the UK. Yet they work with a single tyre partner: Goodyear.
Tony Coghlan is the fleet manager and explains that decision to work with Goodyear was driven by the need for reliability and a premium product. “Before the contract was signed, we mapped out locations and requirements and decided what stock we would need in each location – and then agreed a fixed price. There were no surprises and these were prices that were affordable, given their quality and performance”.
H Parkinson Haulage use more than Goodyear’s tyres. Tony explains that using TruckForce to replace damaged tyres by the roadside has reduced typical downtime by 15 minutes – with the added advantage that damaged tyre casings can be fully repaired and put back into the company inventory.
“What’s more, using FleetOnlineSolutions also gives us transparency on all our costs and helps us to monitor the amount of breakdowns against KPIs. Working with Goodyear gives us tools like this that help improve the efficiency of the business and reduce our outgoings. In the last 12 months, we have reduced our tyre-related costs by 12%.”
The relationship between Goodyear and H Parkinson Haulage is based on transparency and a mutual desire to drive results: “From a tyre partner, we’re looking for prompt service, reliability, and being treated fairly. From Goodyear, there are no hidden extras - they are just perfect.”
